At Brandt and Whitney, Inc. we see all types of cane, rush and other woven seats and backs. Most but not all modern furniture is machine or pressed cane. It is more common to see hand caning in very fine or antique and vintage pieces. It is important to understand that hand caning and machine caning are not interchangeable. We can not machine cane a chair that is designed for hand caning and vice versa. I have also seen many items that were designed to be caned that were upholstered over.
